Our Story
Mauritius was built on a single conviction: that a truly great leather jacket should outlast trends, outlast seasons, and outlast the moments you wore it in. We set out to make pieces worthy of that promise — and to make them the right way.
Crafted With Intention
Every Mauritius garment begins with leather sourced exclusively as a by-product of the meat industry. We use no exotic skins, and no animal is ever harmed for its hide. From that starting point, our artisans take over.
Our soft lamb leather is among the highest grades of lambskin available. Each jacket is vegetable-washed and finished by hand — waxes, paints, and specialty treatments are applied by spray, hand-brush, or dip-dye, then polished or buffed to achieve that signature look and touch. Distressing along the seams is accomplished with metallic rubs, oils, and tints, applied one piece at a time. No two jackets are identical. Slight variations in tone and texture aren't imperfections — they're the mark of genuine, high-quality leather.
All pieces are made by hand, one by one.
Vegetable Tanning: Better for the Leather, Better for the Planet
We tan without chrome. Instead, we use plant-based extracts — a slower, more labour-intensive process that produces a richer leather and leaves no harmful residue in local water systems. Chrome tanning can prevent dye from setting properly, cause crocking, and raise disputed health concerns. Vegetable tanning avoids all of that, resulting in leather that ages beautifully and treads more lightly on the environment.
Ethical Production, Verified
Our production facilities are based across four cities in Pakistan, where a dedicated team of 16 Mauritius quality-control specialists checks and stamps every single garment before it leaves the factory. We continually monitor for harmful substances, and our facilities are regularly audited by the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI).
As a BSCI member, we are committed to the full BSCI code of conduct — covering fair wages, safe working conditions, freedom of assembly, zero tolerance for forced or child labour, and respect for the environment. We work only with suppliers who have been independently audited and certified to this standard.
